Hamilton-Waikato Region of the North Island
Hamilton is in the Waikato Region of the North Island, approximately 130 km (80 miles) south of Auckland. Hamilton is the centre of New Zealand's fourth largest urban area, and Hamilton City is the country's fourth largest territorial authority. In its natural state, Hamilton and environs was very swampy in winter. Like many New Zealand cities, private cars are the most common transport medium. Hamilton International Airport serves as both a domestic and international airport.
